Last November Apple announced its Self Service, but now the Self Service Repair Program is officially launched in the United States enabling Apple users to fix their own defective iPhones. Third party repair shops and U.S. based consumers can now order over 200 parts and tools for the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone SE (2022) in a special online store. This is how it works.
Apple Self Service Repair is a program in which people can order the parts and tools necessary to restore their Apple devices. Although basically everybody has access to the online store, the program is specifically meant for consumers and repairmen armed with the know-how and experience needed to fix electronic devices. For most consumers an official repair by authorized technicians remains the safest and most reliable option - by far.
Enrolling in the Apple Self Service Repair program is quite easy:
With the Self Service Repair program Apple aims to make repairs available to everybody rather than making repairs cheaper. For example, an iPhone 13 display costs around $300 and an iPhone 12 battery sells for about $70. The tools needed are yours to keep, but for $49 you’re also able to rent an Apple repair kit for a week. Great for those one time repairs.
Beginning in Europe, the repair program expands to additional countries later this year. Also you’ll find more parts in the online store over time, including the ones you need to repair Macs with Apple Silicon chips like the MacBook Pro 2021 and the Mac Studio. Whether parts for iPads and other iDevices become available too remains to be seen.
Do you want to know more about self repair? Or are your iPhones and iPads beyond repair and are you looking for economically priced devices to replace them? We gladly help you out. Feel free to get in touch!
